FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about Koh Lipe
When is high season on Koh Lipe?

High season is from November until May. Low season is from May to November. Daily ferries for all destinations start in November and run until early may.

In low season there are daily ferries to and from Pak Barra only.

Check our Ferry Times for more information.

Peak season is December, January and February. During these months all bungalows usually fill up and reservations are recommended.

What happens in Low season?

Koh Lipe is slowly evolving to an all year destination with more resorts staying open all year, and daily ferries from Pak Barra all year.

However some bars, restaurants and shops still close from May to October.

In Low Season, also called Green Season by the locals, everything slows down and it becomes easy to have the entire beach to yourself.

The visibility of the water is usualy very good, better than in high season, so it's a great time to snorkel.

Is there an ATM on Koh Lipe? Can I get money on the island?

On August 1st 2009 there was still no ATM on Koh Lipe.

The only way to get money on Koh Lipe is with a cash advance on your credit card, expect to pay 5 to 8 % commission for this service. We recommend you bring enough cash with you.

From November until May there is a moveable ATM at Pak Barra Pier. There is also an ATM in Lang-nu, a small town just 5 minutes from Pak Barra Pier.

Rumour has it that ATM's are about to arrive on the island, we will keep you posted! When there is one you will be able to find it on our island map.

Is there a doctor on the island? Is there a hospital?
The hospital is located next to the school on Sunrise Beach. There is a doctor that speaks OK english and a nurse. The hospital as a basic stock off medical suplies, but for anything major you will have to go to the mainland or to Langkawi.
What about Immigration, Visa Runs and the 14 day visa situation?

From November 1st 2009 there is a fully functional immigration office on Koh Lipe, they are able to handle exit and entry into Thailand, visa extensions and overstays.

The immigration office is located at the eastern part of Pattaya Beach, next to Bundhaya Resort.

Travelers arriving from Langkawi will be guided trough the immigration process by the ferry company. If you are traveling to Langkawi you will have to go trough Immigration 1 hour before taking the boat.

Attention! Visa on arrival over land or sea is only 14 days!

In 2008 the law was changed so visitors to Thailand only get a 14 day visum when they enter Thailand over land or sea. When you fly into Thailand you still get 30 days.

The easiest way if you like to stay in Thailand longer than 30 days is to get a Tourist Visum (60 days per entry - you can buy multiple entries and extend every entry with 30 days without leaving) from the Thai Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

From 15 November until early May it is now possible to go to Langkawi in the morning and return in the afternoon in order to renew your tourist visum (also called visa run).
